Our designers worked with Schoeller – the Swiss-based textile manufacturers to create the Portman. Schoeller has more than 150 years of experience working with high-performance fabrics and textile technologies from active sports to the fashion industry and even security forces!
Schoeller also supports our mission at Fox Wilson to be environmentally friendly. The company produces all its material in line with the bluesign® standard which guarantees the use of sustainable ingredients and production.
Now to the design. We use the classic diamond quilt and have streamlined the shoulders and seams to make sure Portman doesn't have that bulky look – a common issue with some quilted jackets. The merino cuff has been fitted inside the sleeve for that added wind protection, and the collar can be turned up for additional wind protection. An asymmetric waterproof zip and Fox Wilson logo complete this stylish cycling jacket.
Quilted jackets became popular in the 1960s, and the diamond pattern was popularised by Queen Elizabeth who donned the look when out riding. The quilted jacket quickly caught on and soon academics and celebrities alike were sporting the look. Quilted jackets have now become a classic and are frequently seen on Autumn/Winter runways.
The Portman looks great paired with our Chelsea jeans or for a complete equestrian look try this tailored cycling jacket with our Fulham Jodhpurs. Tally ho!
"Taking its inspiration from equestrian wear, this lightweight padded jacket is fully waterproof and cosy enough for winter rides, and you could wear it down the pub too. I highly recommend it.” – Ridevello cycling magazine
